For Hair Series project, I work with my own braid, that I cut off in 1992. I scan locks of my body with my braid in order to reconnect with my memory as a freeing ritualistic enactment. I draw over the hair digitally, creating color coats that I combine from various sources, such as screen glitches, scan distortions and sound waves. The act of cutting my hair and shaving my head was profoundly liberating for my 16-year-old self. Now, bringing it into my present through this haptic process allows me to transform a sensory pleasure into a tangible sense of the photographic.

On view at International Center of Photography, New York, September 15 - November 19, 2017
